Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)
Why We Assess LLN Skills
To ensure your success in our accredited training programs, we are required to assess your language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills before you commence your course. This assessment helps us identify the best ways to support your learning journey.
How We Assess Your Skills
We conduct LLN assessments through one of two methods:
- For New Students: If you haven’t trained with us before, we’ll conduct a formal assessment of your LLN skills.
- For Returning Students: If you’ve previously completed and LLN or either a CPD Course or Construction Wiring course with us, you’ve already demonstrated the necessary skills for our accredited training programs.
Streamlined Process for ETU Members
We recognise that students enrolling in our courses are typically ETU members who have:
- Successfully completed their trade qualifications
- Passed multiple assessments and licensing tests
- Demonstrated their competency in the electrical trade
As ETU members frequently re-enrol with us to access their annual entitlements, we only require you to complete an LLN test once, or not at all if you’ve completed our CPD or Construction Wiring courses.
Assessment Timeline
If you’re a new student requiring an LLN assessment:
- We’ll clearly outline this requirement in your course confirmation email
- The assessment must be completed at least one week before your course commences
- If not completed on time, we’ll help you transfer to a later course date to ensure proper assessment
Support for Additional Learning Needs
If your LLN assessment indicates areas for development, one of our experienced educators will discuss your options, which may include:
- Direct Support: Providing additional assistance to help you successfully complete your course
- External Referral: Connecting you with specialist service providers who can help develop the skills you need before undertaking accredited training
- Personalised Solutions: Working closely with you to ensure you can access our services with appropriate support
Our Commitment
We are committed to working with all ETU members to ensure they can access our training services. We will provide support wherever possible to help you achieve your professional development goals.
